QR Code Images 2014-2018

These works are an attempt to synthesize my dual interests in visual art and literature. Text from novels, quotes, and personal writings are used to generate a QR Code. Then, using the QR code as an image mask, I superimpose two images that relate literally or metaphorically to the text. The final image must be judged on its own merits, but like hieroglyphics they should be de-coded to fully understand the context of the piece. Using a smartphone app, the viewer can easily decipher the QR code which in turn assists them in mentally separating the overlapping images. This work continues a life-long odyssey to actively engage the user in the viewing experience.
